Katie is a senior studying BCN with a gender and health minor. She pledged her Sophmore fall and is currently serving as Phi Chi’s Rush Chair. She has an interest in women’s health, which lead her to research on abortion stigma in restrictive contexts, and the student org, Students for Reproductive Rights and Justice. Outside of school, she volunteers in the NICU at Mott and works as a personal care assistant. Additionally, she works in the Psychology Department as a peer advisor and for the Science Learning Center as a Chem 230 Study Group Facilitator. She is from Canton MI, so she loves Detroit/Michigan sports (at their best and worst). In her free time she enjoys movie nights with her family, and trying new restaurants in Ann Arbor with her roommates.

Koen is a junior in the studying Biology, Health, and Society. Alongside Katie, he serves as one of Phi Chi’s Rush Chairs and is excited to help select this year’s new member class! Outside of Phi Chi, Koen works as a barback at Echelon downtown and serves as co-president of VAW Global. In his free time, he loves cooking, reading, and going to the gym, so be sure to talk to him if you share any of those interests!

Amanda Chen is a junior and is excited to be one of our co-chairs of Professional Development! She is studying Public Health with a minor in music, and is interested in investigating the effects of health disparities on reproductive health. Amanda also is a Clinical Support Assistant at IHA, volunteers at Mott’s Children Hospital, and is involved in ovarian cancer research at the School of Public Health. In her free time, she loves pilates, music (piano and guitar), and trying new foods with friends.

Amogh is a junior studying Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCN), with minors in Statistics and Biochemistry. Originally from Lynchburg, Virginia, he works as a medical assistant at a behavioral health clinic and is also an EMT. Outside of academics and healthcare, Amogh enjoys playing soccer and rock climbing.

Yash is a Sophomore majoring in Neuroscience. He currently serves as one of the Philanthropy chairs and is in the Omicron class. He spent the summer getting certified as a Registered Behavior Technician working with kids with autism. He is conducts research in the Kargbo-Hill lab learning about mechanisms of gene regulation in Frontal Temporal Dementia. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, playing tennis, spending time with friends.

Abhinav is a junior majoring in MCDB. He is involved in a research lab studying ways to improve the quality of life for patients with multiple sclerosis and is also a UTA for BIO 192. Outside of academics, Abhinav is involved in GSSA and co-founded Project Save Our Skin at the University of Michigan. In his free time, he enjoys Taco Bell, powerlifting, and escape rooms.

Opal is a member of Phi Chi’s Lambda class and has been involved in the organization since the fall semester of her freshman year. As a public health major with minors in disability studies and creative writing, she has served as Phi Chi’s Philanthropy Chair and as a member of both the DEI and Rush Committees. Outside of Phi Chi, Opal is a clinical research assistant at the University of Michigan’s Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes Center. She has also contributed to similar diabetes research projects at the University of Washington. Additionally, she is a Summer in South Asia Fellow and currently serves as a mentor for the Center for South Asian Studies. In her free time, Opal enjoys practicing yoga, trying new foods and cuisines, and traveling, she has visited more than 20 countries!

Brian is a junior at the University of Michigan majoring in Neuroscience and currently serves as one of the Social Chairs for Phi Chi. He works as a research assistant at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, contributing to a project focused on rare cases in pediatric health. Passionate about medicine, Brian hopes to pursue a career in either pediatrics or cardiology. In his free time, he enjoys exploring Ann Arbor, discovering new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.

Valeria Petrescu is a senior majoring in Biology, Health, and Society with a minor in Gender and Health. She is a member of Phi Chi’s Xi pledge class and currently serves as one of Phi Chi’s co-Mental Health and Wellness Chairs!

Henry is a junior studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with a minor in Spanish, and is thrilled to be one of Phi Chi’s Mental Health & Wellness co-chairs! He works in the Gudjonsson lab, using immunohistochemistry staining to identify chronic inflammatory and autoimmune skin disease in tissue samples in order to improve targeted treatments. Henry also works as a personal care assistant and volunteers at Michigan Medicine Adult Emergency Services, as he’s passionate about pursuing a career in either emergency medicine or dermatology. In his free time, Henry loves to read, listen to records, hike, and work out.

Naya Seligson is a junior in the Nu Class majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with minors in Medical Anthropology and Judaic Studies. . Outside of Phi Chi, Naya is involved with Research with Johnson & Johnson MedTech, Michigan Hillel, Michigan Medicine’s Eating Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program, Chi Omega, ABA, and Genomic Research in the Lukaszewicz Lab. Originally from Dana Point, California, Naya loves spending time outdoors, going to the beach, playing pickleball, photography, music, and spending time with friends over a chai!

Alanood Btoush is a biomedical engineering major with a strong interest in connecting engineering innovation with greater accessibility in medicine. She is a sophomore in the Omicron class! She conducts research in the Potkay ECLS Lab, where she works on developing a 3D artificial microfluidic lung, and is also involved in research through M-CHOIR. In the future, Alanood hopes to pursue a career in neurosurgery while continuing to contribute to medical research. Outside of academics and research, Alanood is involved with the Arab Dance Team and enjoys painting, spending time at the beach or lake, and hanging out with friends.

Tanisha is a Junior at the University of Michigan majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience with a minor in Business. She currently serves as one of the DEI Chairs for Phi Chi and is a part of the Xi class. Outside of Phi Chi, she works at an OB/GYN practice, is a research assistant in the PNI lab, is involved with the Indian American Student Association, and PIH Engage at UofM. In her free time, she loves going on long walks outside, dancing, and spending time with her friends and family.

Akhil is a senior studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and serves as Phi Chi's Alumni Relations Chair. He works as a lead research intern in the Bartlett ECLS Lab where he researches ex vivo heart perfusion which aims to increase the donor pool. He is an emergency room technician, Secretary of Doctors Without Borders, a member of the Global Surgery Student Alliance, and a hospice volunteer. He is interested in pursuing a career in surgery and cardiology. In his free time he enjoys going for runs, lifting, traveling, and trying new food spots!

Luke is a junior in the Omicron Class! He is studying BHS and is a part of Aakalu Lab. In his free time, Luke loves to play sports and spend time with his golden retriever back home in Cleveland.

Gray Blankfort is a junior, in the Xi Class studying Neuroscience. Originally from Mill Valley, California, she stays deeply involved on campus as the Philanthropy Director for Kappa Kappa Gamma, a facilitator for the Wolverine Support Network (WSN), and a volunteer for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Her passion for healthcare and human behavior extends beyond her extracurriculars into hands-on clinical experience. Gray works in a research lab at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, serves as a Personal Care Assistant, and previously spent a summer working as a Behavior Technician. In her free time, she loves hanging out with friends, spending time at the beach, and taking the plunge with cold-water polar dips.

Stephanie Dong is a junior majoring Biology, Health, and Society and pursuing a minor in the Multidisciplinary Design Program. She is a part of the Omicron Class, and she is super excited to work with the incoming pledges as one of the next pledge parents! Outside of PhiChi, she works with M-HEAL The Initiative to work on global health initiatives with neonates to reduce neonatal hypothermia in Ghana. Additionally, she volunteers with the local homeless community through Groundcover News to help people recover from financial instability, and she works as a Personal Caretaker. In her free time, she loves exploring new cafes, cooking, digital drawing, and spending time with loved ones.

Alex Kotov is a junior currently serving as a New Member Educator. Outside of Phi Chi, Alex conducts research in the Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology, where he studies pathways involved in the progression of liver disease. He also volunteers in Michigan Medicine’s emergency room and is currently working toward obtaining his Instrument Rating as a private pilot through King Schools. Alex plans to pursue a career in forensic pathology. Outside of school, he enjoys watching movies with friends, hiking, and listening to music.
